Chicago, IL- Marcus Semien came up clutch, as he hit the go-ahead grand slam in the White Sox 6-4 win over the Tigers.
Marcus Semien went 1 for 4 with 4 RBI for the White Sox as he was the big bat in the win. Jose Abreu went 1 for 4 with 2 RBI. He hit a two-run homer in the top of the first off of Drew Smyly. Paul Konerko, who set the White Sox franchise record for total bases tonight, went 3 for 4. He broke the record, which was set by Frank Thomas with 3,949 total bases. Andre Rienzo pitched solid for the White Sox, as he went 6.1 innings, gave up five hits, four earned runs, two walks, and collected three strikeouts. Matt Lindstrom recorded his third save of the season.
J.D. Martinez and Austin Jackson both drove in two runs tonight for the Tigers. Victor Martinez went 2 for 4. Drew Smyly pitched six innings of two run ball, but he didn't get the win as Evan Reed lost the game for the Tigers.
The White Sox will try to take three out of four in this series against Detroit on April 24, 2014. Jose Quintana will face Max Scherzer with first pitch at 12:08 CT at Comerica Park.
