4/25/14: Abreu & Co Walk-Off On The South Side Against Tampa

Chicago, IL- Jose Abreu hit a walk-off grand slam in the bottom of ninth as the White Sox beat the Rays 9-6.

Adam Eaton returned to the lineup today, as he went 1 for 5 with 1 RBI. Jose Abreu went 3 for 5 with 6 RBI. Besides the grand slam, he had an RBI single and a solo home run. Alexei Ramirez and Alejandro De Aza both went 2 for 4. Tyler Flowers went 2 for 3 with 2 RBI. Erik Johnson only lasted 1.2 innings as he gave up four earned runs to the Rays. Zach Putnam pitched 2.2 scoreless innings of relief with a strikeout. Matt Lindstrom broke up the tie in the top of the ninth, but went on to win the game.

The Rays may have had ten hits and eleven walks, but they only scored six runs. Ben Zobrist went 2 for 5 with 1 RBI. Evan Longeria gave the Rays a 6-4 lead in the top of the ninth with a two-run blast, but sadly for the Rays it wasn't the game winning hit. The Rays third basemen went 2 for 5 with 2 RBI. Chris Archer started for the Rays, as he went six innings, gave up nine hits, four earned runs, and collected four strikeouts. Grant Balfour blew his first save of the season.

The White Sox play their next game against the Rays on April 26, 2014. Cesar Ramos will face off against John Danks at 6:10 PM CT.
